Frequently Asked Questions
How important is it to have a great headshot?
In the shortest of explanations, very. Whether you're getting a corporate headshot, building your modeling portfolio or an actor ready to take the next step in getting your foot in the casting door - it is crucial for the image you put forth to be the very best representation of you. For actors in particular, having a great headshot can mean the difference between getting called in for that role you've been dying for, and the casting director not even making it so far as looking at your resume.
How do I prepare for my shoot?
Despite the pitfall listed above, try not to stress! If you feel it inside, it will show on the outside - which doesn't make for the prettiest of pictures. Get plenty of sleep and go light on the all-nighters in the days leading up to your shoot. Hydrate and refresh with lots of H20. Go to your happy place, be zen-ful, and know it's not as nerve racking as it looks.
For my actors/models - also think on these tidbits and come to your shoot having answered them:
Who are you?
What do you hope to capture?
What type of role/campaign do you see yourself getting cast in?
What do I wear to my shoot?
Actors/Models:
Bearing in mind the tidbits above, come prepared with solid colors that compliment you. Nothing that will wash you out, nothing that will overshadow your inherent awesomeness. Steer clear of prints, patterns, logo's, etc. Black is always the new black, and a great go-to option. Clothing with texture also photographs well. Be mindful of necklines. Boat necks and cowl necks are a no; turtlenecks needn't be invited to the party, unless there's a cat burglar role you've really got your eye on. V-necks and scoop necks show well, so long as they're not distractingly low.
Corporate:
Generally, what you wear on the typical day at the office is what you should come ready with. Unless you are going for a different look, in which case, bring the new you!
For All:
Say "Yes!" to...
Comfort - unless you're opting for a full body shoot, feel free to wear your worn out jeans, dingy slacks, or your SpongeBob pajama pants from last Christmas to be comfortable. #NoJudgement
Say "No!" to...
Excessive Jewelry
Hats
Ill Fitting Clothing
...unless, of course, you're a character acting and this is your character spot on.
Whether you've opted for an unlimited looks package or not, be sure to bring plenty of options to choose from. If you're on the fence about an outfit and bring it as your only one, you run the risk of not being satisfied with the final look. Your dissatisfaction = my dissatisfaction. So, cover your bases on what's covering you in your shoot!
Can I arrive early?
Yes, but please be no more than 10 minutes early or late for sessions over 30 minutes - and no more than 5 minutes early or late for the 15 minute session. Seems simple enough, but I have had more people than I can count with my fingers and toes (and I've got all of them!) arrive 20, 30 and even 70 minutes early for their session and asked to be seen then. I set appointments for a reason, and ask that you roughly (but a close rough) stick with yours. Everyone's time matters, so please respect mine as you would wish for yours to be respected.
What forms of payment are accepted?
You can pay with either cash, credit/debit card or through the app "Venmo". ** Please note, for 1 hour or longer sessions, payment must be made at the time of booking your session. Once your appointment date/time is confirmed an invoice will be sent to you via email, for you to securely remit payment online. If payment is not made within 3 days of booking your session you will lose your appointment.
How long are my pictures kept on file?
For 30-min or longer sessions, your raw files are stored online for 30 days from the date the link is sent to you. After that, they are moved to an external harddrive and stored for up to 6 months. For the 15-min session, the raw files are kept for up to 3 days only.
Is there anything else I should bring?
Yes, you! Let who you are (or who you're trying to capture) shine through. Come with a positive attitude, ready to get the most out of your session.
